
Damian Rivera Called into Costa Rica Under-23 National Team

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - New England Revolution midfielder Damian Rivera has been called into the Costa Rica Under-23 Men's National Team for the 2023 Maurice Revello Tournament in France. Rivera and Los Ticos have been drawn into Group A and will face Venezuela in the opening match of the Group Stage on June 5 (8:00 a.m. ET - Aubagne, France). Costa Rica will round out Group A play with matches against host nation France on June 8 (11:30 a.m. ET - Mallemort, France) and Saudi Arabia on June 11 (8:00 a.m. ET - Aubagne, France).
Rivera earns his first international call-up for Costa Rica after previously featuring at the youth level for the United States. The Cranston, R.I. native made two appearances for the United States Under-17 National Team in 2019. Rivera recently received his Costa Rican citizenship, allowing him to represent Los Ticos on the international stage.
A Homegrown midfielder and graduate of the Revolution Academy, Rivera signed with New England in November 2019 after scoring 41 goals in 90 appearances at the youth level. Rivera has split time between the first team and Revolution II since his first season in 2020, having tallied 16 goals and five assists over 50 games with the second team. In MLS action, Rivera made his first team debut in August 2021 and has since appeared in 17 regular season matches with one goal scored. This season, Rivera has three regular season appearances and two additional starts in the U.S. Open Cup, tallying an assist in the Third Round victory against Hartford Athletic on April 25.
The Revolution (7-3-3, 24 pts.) return to Gillette Stadium on Saturday, May 27 to host Chicago Fire FC (3-4-6, 15 pts.) on the club's annual Salute to Heroes Night.
