Allen, Texas (Jan. 18, 2015) - The Dallas Sidekicks' 5-4 victory over Oxford City FC of Texas on Sunday afternoon was a full team effort, with two defenseman, a rookie newcomer and the MASL's 11th leading scorer contributing goals. The Sidekicks are now 9-5 this season and sit in third in the Southern Division.
Both teams netted two goals in the first quarter, Sidekicks defenseman Kiley Couch on the powerplay with his fourth of the season and Oxford City's Franck Tayou striking right back near the conclusion of the first period. The second period became a battle of possession, Damian Garcia cashing in on a free kick at 11:14, blasting it by Sidekicks goalkeeper Sagu. Dallas newcomer Alex Molano, son of former Sidekick Willie Molano, tied the game a two-a-side a few minutes later, catching Oxford City netminder Juan Gamboa out of position and shooting into an empty net.
The second half was a back-and-forth battle, Oxford City's Cesar Cerda putting in a rebound to take the lead at 8:48 in the third. Dallas leading scorer Freddy Moojen brought the game back to even early in the fourth, converting a pass from Fabinho for the Sidekicks' second powerplay goal of the match. City's Garcia put up his second of the night at 9:09 to once again give his team the lead, but Dallas answered with two consecutive goals. Defenseman Cody Ellis was the first to strike, followed by Carlos Videla to put the Sidekicks up 5-4. Oxford City attempted to even the game with a sixth attacker, but an impressive showing from Sagu saw Dallas hold onto the lead and put an end to their losing streak.
Next weekend the Sidekicks travel to Brownsville for a back-to-back against the Barracudas (2-11), who currently sit last in the Southern Division. Saturday's match on the 24th will kick off at 7 p.m. and Sunday's at 3 p.m. Both matches will be available to stream for free at www.golivesportscast.com.
The Sidekicks return to Allen Event Center to host Saltillo Rancho Seco (1-9) on Jan. 31 at 7:00 p.m. for Faith & Family Night presented by East Teas Baptist University.
