Ontario Fury Tighten Grip on Second Place

The Ontario Fury, Driven by Mark Christopher Chevrolet, defeated the Las Vegas Legends 6-5 in another tense, foul-filled matchup. The Fury took the game to the wire and gets two important wins in a close division race.

The Pacific Division rivals concluded their season series in dramatic fashion with the Fury scoring a goal with 2:07 remaining in the fourth quarter from forward Daniel Villela.

The first half started with the Legends getting an early one-goal lead. The Fury climbed their way back with three goals in a span of 2:23.

The Fury's Juan Topete, fresh off his three-goal performance last night, recorded the first goal for Ontario. Israel Sesay and Miguel Sanchez, who returned after serving a two-game suspension for a red card received in the last game versus Las Vegas, scored the other two goals to put the Fury up 3-1 heading into the second quarter.

Within the first 3:03 of the second quarter, Las Vegas and Ontario combined for three goals. The Legends' Jonathan Bravo, a former Fury player, gave the Legends their second goal of the game. Fifty-five seconds later, Tino Nunez scored and then a goal by Israel Sesay 1:03 later gave the Fury a 5-2 lead.

The Fury headed into halftime with that three-goal lead.

The Legends scored twice in the final five minutes including a goal with ten seconds remaining to bring the Fury lead to one, 5-4.

The fourth quarter included the Fury's late game dramatics. Las Vegas tied up the game off a Jackson Collins goal with less than four minutes remaining.

The Fury, who were held without a goal for 39:40 going back to the second quarter, then received the goal from Villela. Oliver Dyson, a new acquisition from the Seattle Impact, recorded his first point as a member of the Fury with an assist on the game-winning goal.

The foul total for this one was an improvement from the two teams' previous matchup trimming the fouls down from 40 to 27 and only accrued a total of 10 penalty minutes compared to the Jan. 3 matchup, which had 44.

Leading the way on offense was Sesay as he recorded a three-point game with one goal and two assists. That was his first three-point game this season.

The Fury move to 10-5 on the season and move a half-game back behind San Diego.

The Fury return to action on Friday, Jan. 30 at Turlock and Saturday, Jan. 31 at Sacramento. The Fury's next home game is Saturday, Feb. 7 vs. Sacramento.
