
Dallas Sidekicks Defeat Austin Capitals 16-5, Move on in Open Cup

ALLEN, Texas (Nov. 17, 2013) - Three Dallas Sidekicks players scored hat tricks in the team's 16-5 Open Cup victory over the Austin Capitals Sunday afternoon. Paulo da Silva, Jamie Lovegrove and Arthur Ivo combined for nine of 16 Sidekick goals. Dallas will move on in the tournament, a single elimination open knockout style competition that is run concurrent with the PASL regular season. With the win, the Sidekicks will move on to play the Hidalgo La Fiera in the Round of 16 at a date to be announced.
The match began with Sean Bellomy scoring his first of the season at 7:55, the only goal of the first quarter as both sides took time to pressure and feel each other out, the. The second quarter was a different story, the Sidekicks taking over early with a kick from Shaun David to wide open Cameron Brown, resulting in Brown's first goal since becoming a Sidekick. Soon after, Kristian Quintana beat Capitals goaltender James Kellum at close range to add to the Dallas lead. The Sidekicks went up 4-0 after Paulo da Silva was fouled and scored of off of the resulting penalty shot taken by Jamie Lovegrove. Lovegrove went on to score two successive goals of his own, putting the Sidekicks up 6-0 going into halftime.
Capitals defender Sean Arters capitalized on a rebound 19 seconds into the third period, but the Sidekicks stuck right back with Arthur Ivo getting his first goal of the season. Da Silva followed with two consecutive powerplay goals, completing his first hat trick of the season. All of da Silva's goals were on the powerplay. The Sidekicks ended the quarter up 11-1 with late goals from David and defender Dominic Schell. A surge of goals came early in the fourth quarter, three Capitals scoring and Dallas' Ivo getting his second of the match. Bellomy also scored his second of the night soon after, followed by a crowd-pleasing header from Carlos Videla. A Capitals goal on a free kick came at 9:44, but the Sidekicks put a final stamp on the 16-5 victory with Ivo and Lovegrove both scoring to complete hat tricks in the final minutes of the match.
The Sidekicks head to Wichita to take on the B-52s on Saturday, Dec 7 at 7 p.m. The Sidekicks defeated Wichita 15-3 at the Allen Event Center on Nov 2. The next Saturday the team returns to the Allen Event Center to take on expansion tram Saltillo Rancho Seco for the first time this season on Dec 14 at 7 p.m.
