Dale Murphy Headed to Scotiabank Field
July 3, 2015 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Vancouver Canadians News Release
(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, B.C.) - There are certain things you just can't make up as the Vancouver Canadians have announced that Tommy John will not be making his July 13th Superstar Series appearance as he is scheduled for surgery.
The Canadians are proud to announce that former Atlanta Braves superstar Dale Murphy, a player the organization has been seeking for some time, will be slotting in on July 13th as the C's host Salem-Keizer at 7:05pm presented by Blakes & The BC Sports Hall of Fame.
Murphy was the 5th overall selection in the 1974 MLB First-Year Player Draft, taken by the Atlanta Braves where he would play 15 years. The slugger from Portland, Oregon would hit 398 career home runs and was named National League All-Star twice (1982-83) as well as to the National League All-Star Team seven (7) times. Murphy was also a recipient of four (4) silver slugger awards and had his #3 retired by the Atlanta Braves in 1994.
The irony in Tommy John having to reschedule due to surgery is thanks in large part to baseball's most famous of surgery's being named after the 27-year MLB veteran. The Vancouver Canadians Baseball Club wishes Mr. John a safe procedure and a restful recovery.
The Canadians play the finale of this eight-game home stand on Friday, July 3rd as they host the Indians on our first Scotiabank Bright Future 'Nooner game with the first pitch set for 1:05pm. Tickets available by calling 604.872.5232, online at www.canadiansbaseball.com or by visiting the Nat Bailey Stadium Box Office at 4601 Ontario Street, Vancouver, B.C.
