Vancouver Canadians News Release
(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, B.C.) - The Vancouver Canadians, led offensively by Lane Thomas, refused to allow the Spokane Indians to complete a series sweep as they topped the Indians 10-6 on Friday afternoon at Scotiabank Field.
2B Lane Thomas was a part of the opening scoring as he came home to count shortly after grabbing his first base hit of the game on a sacrifice fly off the bat of DH Carl Wise. The very next inning, Thomas extended the Canadians lead with a grand slam over the left field wall that brought home RF Sean Hurley, C Kevin Garcia and SS JC Cardenas to give Vancouver a 5-1 lead.
The Indians tied up the game after a three-run fourth inning, followed by a solo run from Jamie Potts in the fifth.
Sean Hurley hit his team leading 4th homerun of the season; his second in as many games, to break the tie at the bottom of the 5th inning.
CF Earl Burl III added an insurance run for the Canadians with an RBI double off of Indians reliever, John Kukuruda, to centre field sending Garcia home, and extending the lead to 7-5.
With no outs in the eighth, Lane Thomas returned to the plate only to record his fifth and sixth RBI of the day on a double out to centre field that knocked a number out of the manually operated scoreboard. He advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on base hit by Kelly.
Dylan Moore of the Indians refused to go quietly firing a solo homerun to lead off the ninth inning, but it wouldn't be enough to get the Indians back in the game as Canadians closer, Andrew Case secured Vancouver's 7th victory of the season, improving to 7-9.
