Hickory, NC - The Hickory Crawdads broke up a shutout and came away with a walk-off win Saturday night, as the 'Dads erased a 1-0, 9th inning deficit with a game-tying RBI triple from Jose Cardona and a game-winning RBI single by Jose Trevino for a 2-1 win over the Hagerstown Suns in front of 3,123 fans at L.P. Frans Stadium.

The Crawdads entered the game's final frame facing a 5-hit shutout thanks to the standout pitching of Hagerstown hurlers Luis Reyes and Tyler Mapes. Suns reliever David Ramos entered the game in the 9th looking for the save, but was greeted by a leadoff double from Travis Demeritte to place the tying run in scoring position for the 'Dads with no outs. Following a groundout by Luke Tendler that allowed Demeritte to take third base, Cardona lined an RBI triple down the right field line that plated Demeritte and tied the game at 1-1. On the very next pitch, Trevino looped the game-winning RBI single to center for the Crawdads 2-1 victory.

Prior to the 9th inning drama, the 'Dads and Suns were locked in a pitchers' duel. Hickory starter Reed Garrett began the game with four, brisk shutout innings to match Reyes' dominance for Hagerstown. The Suns finally broke through with a two-out rally in the 5th. Osvaldo Abrue singled to left with two away, stole second base, then proceeded to score on a hit-and-run, RBI single by Matt Reistetter to put Hagerstown ahead 1-0.

Crawdads reliever Nick Gardewine kept the 'Dads in the game with four scoreless innings of relief, setting up the 'Dads end-game heroics. Gardewine (1-0) earned the win for the 'Dads following his shutout performance, while Ramos (0-1) took the loss for the Suns after blowing the save.

Cardona finished the night 2-4 with a triple, RBI, run scored, and stolen base, while Michael De Leon went 2-4 to stretch his season-opening hitting streak to three games.

The Crawdads (2-1) will go for the series win over the Suns (1-2) in Sunday's finale, with first pitch scheduled for 5:00 pm.
