Los Angeles D-Fenders News Release
El Segundo, CA - In front of a packed Toyota Sports Center, the Los Angeles D-Fenders dropped to the Tulsa 66ers in a second chance battle, 90 to 102.
The 66ers were off to a good start shooting 66.7% (4 of 6) from outside the arc and out rebounding the home team 12 to 4 to end the first quarter. Los Angeles trailed throughout the first, closing the quarter down 17 to 28.
Tulsa continued to control the game, ending the half with a 58 to 40 advantage. Mustafa Shakur led the 66ers with 17 points, while teammate Deron Washington chipped in with 13, making 3 of his 4 contested threes. D-Fenders Frank Robinson, Diamon Simpson and Joe Crawford carried their team at the half with seven points apiece.
With a combination of new energy and defensive chants from the crowd, the D-Fenders were able to outscore their opponent 29 to 25 in the third. The D-Fenders' four extra points weren't enough leverage to hold off the 66ers as they closed the third leading 83 to 69.
The D-Fenders were able to narrow their deficit to 11 in the fourth quarter but it wasn't quite enough to hold off their opponent. Los Angeles finished the game shooting 25.0% from the three point line next to Tulsa's 58.8%.
Tulsa's dynamic shooting was led by Shakur, who also led the game in points with 26. Teammate Moses Ehambe contributed with 22 points, while Latavious Williams posted 12 rebounds.
D-Fenders Crawford led his team with 22 points and Simpson chipped in with a double-double (15 points, 11 rebounds); both players will also play together in the 2010 NBA D-League All-Star game this weekend.
