Skyforce Heads Into All-Star Break With Victory Over Thunderbirds

SIOUX FALLS, S.D., Feb. 10 - The Sioux Falls Skyforce defeated the Albuquerque Thunderbirds 100-90 on Wednesday night at the Sioux Falls Arena. The Skyforce held Albuquerque to 40.9 percent shooting from the field to win their fourth game in their last five outings.

Sioux Falls led by as many as 15 points in the first half but Albuquerque cut the halftime deficit to eight points (54-46) following a halfcourt bank shot by Chad Toppert at the buzzer. Toppert scored 19 points in the opening half including five 3-pointers.

After an even third quarter, Sioux Falls pushed the lead back up to 15 points (90-75) with just over six minutes to go in the contest and appeared to be on their way to an easy victory. Albuquerque responded with an 11-2 spurt and trailed 96-90 with just over two minutes to go. Albuquerque would not score again the rest of the game though and Sioux Falls improved their home record to 12-5.

Alexander Johnson continued his solid play since being acquired with 24 points and eight rebounds. Reggie Williams chipped in with 22 points and six rebounds and David Bailey had a near triple-double with 13 points, nine rebounds and seven assists.

Toppert scored a game-high 27 points on 9-of-10 shooting from the field including a perfect 7-of-7 from downtown. Reigning Co-Performer of the Week Antoine Agudio added 16 points in defeat.

Sioux Falls and Albuquerque are off this weekend with the All-Star Game taking place in Dallas, Texas on Saturday at 2 p.m. CT. Both teams return to action next week on the road against Utah. The Skyforce plays the Flash on Wednesday at 8 p.m. CT and the Thunderbirds visit the Flash on Friday at 7 p.m. MT.
