Los Angeles D-Fenders News Release
EL SEGUNDO - The Los Angeles D-Fenders defeated the Maine Red Claws 120-107 tonight at the Toyota Sports Center
In the first quarter, the D-Fenders (10-8) struggled to contain a Red Claws' (8-12) offense that totaled 39 points on 53.8 percent from the floor. Trailing by nine points entering the second, Los Angeles was effective getting inside, tallying 18 points in the paint in the period. However, their interior success didn't lead to progress on the scoreboard and the D-Fenders entered halftime trailing by 14 points. In total, Los Angeles shot 48.0 percent from the field, but never held the lead during the first half of play.
The momentum swung in the D-Fenders direction in the third frame due in large part to a 21-6 run through the first seven minutes. A Manny Harris three-point jumper gave the D-Fenders their first lead of the game to cap the 21-6 start. Los Angeles held Maine to 33.3 percent from the field and 13 points in the third quarter. The D-Fenders showcased another impressive defensive performance in the final period and held the Red Claws to 28.6 percent from the field to seal their tenth victory of the season.
Fresh off back-to-back NBA D-League Performer of the Week honors, Manny Harris led Los Angeles with 42 points and eight rebounds. James Southerland posted his second double-double of the season (15 points, 11 rebounds) and Terrence Williams (16 points, seven assists), Travis Hyman (14 points, seven blocks) and Josiah Turner (11 points) rounded out the double-digits scorers for the D-Fenders.
Frank Gaines finished with 26 points and Chris Wright totaled 23 points and seven rebounds to lead Maine. Zeke Marshall (12 points, 11 rebounds), Chris Babb (12 points) and Abdul Gaddy (10 points) also finished in double-digits for the Red Claws.
Overall, the D-Fenders held the Red Claws to an opponent season-low 37 points in the second half to spur the victory. In addition, Los Angeles held the edge over Maine in field goal percentage (46.3-43.8), three-point field goal percentage (34.5-31.8), free-throw percentage (81.5-71.0), steals (11-6) and blocks (10-6) on the night.
The D-Fenders go back on the road to face the Reno Bighorns on January 17th at 7:00pm, at the Reno Events Center, in Reno, Nevada.
