D-Fenders Claim Wire-To-Wire Victory in First Half of Back-To-Back

CANTON, OH - The Los Angeles D-Fenders (24-15) defeated the Canton Charge (25-17) 125-111 on Friday night at Canton Memorial Civic Center.

In the first quarter, the D-Fenders began the game on a 21-5 run that catapulted them into a sizable advantage early on. Los Angeles went on to shoot 56 percent in the opening frame, including eight three-point field goals. The D-Fenders carried their offensive momentum into the second period and led by as many as 26 points before eventually heading into the half with a 15-point edge over the Charge. Overall, Los Angeles shot 56.5 percent from the field and 55.6 percent from the three-point line in the first half.

The D-Fenders efficient shooting faded in the third frame, but Los Angeles maintained their lead by forcing Canton into eight third quarter turnovers. Leading by 16 points entering the final twelve minutes of play, the D-Fenders allowed the Charge to cut the lead to single digits twice. However, the lead never got below eight points and the D-Fenders managed to hold off the late surge to earn their 24th victory of the season in wire-to-wire fashion.

Seven of the eight D-Fenders players finished in double-digits, led by a double-double from Josh Magette (11 points, 14 assists). The other six in double-digits for Los Angeles were Brandon Costner (24 points, nine rebounds), Shawne Williams (23 points, eight rebounds), James Southerland (20 points, six rebounds), Josiah Turner (19 points), Andre Ingram (17 points) and C.J. Williams (11 points).

The Charge were led by Cleveland Cavaliers assignment player Sergey Karasev (21 points, nine rebounds). In addition, Will Cherry (19 points, eight assists, seven rebounds), Steve Weingarten (16 points), Aleksander Czyz (14 points, nine rebounds), Gilbert Brown (11 points), William Buford (10 points, eight rebounds) and Ben Uzoh (10 points) finished in double-digits for Canton.

This marks the third wire-to-wire victory of the season for the D-Fenders. In total, Los Angeles assisted on 23 of their 46 made field goals while only turning the ball over eight times. Additionally, the D-Fenders held the edge in fast break points (18-7) and second chance points (12-6).

These same two teams will square off again tomorrow at 4:30pm, at Canton Memorial Civic Center, in Canton, Ohio.
