D.C. United U-18 and U-16 Teams Close in on U.S. Soccer Development Academy National Playoffs

Washington, D.C. (June 7, 2011) - D.C. United's Youth Academy finished 2-1 in weekend action, as the club's Under-15 side fell 4-1 to NJSA'04 in the National Playoffs, capping a successful inaugural season.

The U-18 and U-16 sides fared better, as each tram travelled to Prince George's Community College on Saturday, June 4. Both sides were victorious over Potomac Academy, with the U-18's posting a 6-1 result, followed by a 4-0 U-16 victory.

Cody Albrecht led the way for the U-18's, tallying two goals and an assist, while Tyler Rudy, Marcus Salandy-Defour, Mikias Eticha, and U-16 player Michael Russo also found the back of the net in the 6-1 drubbing of Potomac.

The U-18's (13-5-7) currently own a share of first place in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Mid-Atlantic Division alongside PA Classics. The Black-and-Red will face off against PA Classics next weekend along with FC Delco in its final two regular season matches, with a place in U.S. Soccer Development Academy National Playoffs on the line.

Dami Aditola opened the scoring for the U-16's in the first half against Potomac with an assist from Collin Martin. The U-16's then added three more goals in the second half with strikes from Martin, Kennedy O'Shea, and Patrick Foss to earn the shutout win, 4-0.

The U-16's (14-6-5) are second in the Mid-Atlantic Division with their final regular season matches also against PA Classics and FC Delco next weekend. Like their U-18 counterparts, the Black-and-Red U-16's are attempting to secure an automatic berth in the 2011 National Playoffs.
