Seattle Sounders FC News Release
TUKWILA, Wash. - First-half goals by Cillian Sheridan and Roger Levesque led the Seattle Sounders FC to a 2-0 victory over the Vancouver Whitecaps FC in a Reserve League match on Tuesday night at Starfire Sports Stadium in Tukwila, Wash.
Sounders FC (5-0-0) sits atop the West Division with a league-high five wins while the Whitecaps FC (0-2-1) continues to search for its first win in Reserve League play.
Seattle took the lead in the 8th minute. Miguel Montano took a ball from Servando Carrasco on the left flank and sent a cross to the far post where Sheridan slid and knocked the ball into the net.
Montano, who recorded his second assist on the score, is the only Sounder with multiple assists in Reserve League play.
Sounders FC added a second tally in the 26th minute. After a corner kick was broken up, Zach Scott headed the ball back in front of goal where Levesque headed it in for his first goal in Reserve League play.
Whitecaps FC nearly pulled a goal back in the 52nd minute but Greg Janicki's header was stopped by Seattle goalkeeper Terry Boss. Boss also made stops on a headed attempt by Omar Salgado in the 55th minute and a long-range shot by Russel Teibert in the 25th minute.
Long Tan got his foot on the end of a long cross in the 71st minute but his attempt went straight to Boss.
Jay Nolly made six saves on the night, including a diving stop on an 18-yard attempt by Sheridan in the 16th minute and a pair of saves on close-range shots from Michael Seamon in the 34th minute.
David Estrada and Montano worked a give-and-go down the right flank in the 83rd minute but Nolly came off his line to smother the ball.
Seattle held an advantage in shots, 12-9, and corner kicks, 4-3. Each side was whistled for 10 fouls.
Sounders FC will face the L.A. Galaxy reserves on Monday, June 13 at 11 a.m. at Starfire Sports Stadium. Admission is free with donations accepted at the gate for the club's community partners.
Vancouver will visit the L.A. Galaxy reserves in their next Reserve League match on June 20 at 11 a.m.
