
D.C. United Transfers Dejan Jakovic to Shimizu S-Pulse

Washington, D.C. (January, 14 2014) - D.C. United today announced that the club has moved Dejan Jakovic to Shumizu S-Pulse on a permanent transfer. The defender played in 18 games (17 starts) this season for the Black-and-Red.
"We would like to thank Dejan for his contributions to our club, and for all that he did on and off the field during his time at D.C. United," said D.C. United General Manager Dave Kasper.
A product of the University of Alabama-Birmingham, Jakovic originally signed with D.C. United on Feb. 27, 2009 from Red Star Belgrade (Serbia) and immediately stepped into the starting center back role playing and starting in 23 matches. Over the next four years the Canadian International never played in less than 15 games as he anchored United's back line. In five seasons with the Black-and-Red, Jakovic played in 98 games (94 starts) and recorded one goal. In 2013, the defender helped lead United to the 2013 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup for the clubs 13th international and domestic title.
A key contributor on the Canada Men's National team, he has appeared in 17 games for his country since his debut on Jan. 30, 2008. Named Canada Men's Soccer Player of the Month for January, Jakovic was also a key contributor during the sides 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.
