LA Galaxy News Release
CARSON, Calif. (Tuesday, January 14, 2014) - The LA Galaxy announced today that the club has traded midfielder Hector Jimenez and the club's first round pick (14th overall) in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft to the Columbus Crew in exchange for allocation money and the Crew's second round pick (23rd overall) in the SuperDraft. The Galaxy now have two picks in the 2014 SuperDraft, which will be held on Thursday morning in Philadelphia.
A Southern California native, Jimenez spent the past three seasons with the Galaxy after being selected by the club in the second round of the 2011 MLS SuperDraft. The 25-year-old appeared in 43 regular season games for the club in that time, scoring four goals and adding six assists while also playing in a pair of postseason games. In 2013, Jimenez set career-highs in all statistical categories, appearing in 26 games, including 14 starts, while scoring three goals and adding four assists. He won a pair of MLS Cup championships in his time with the Galaxy, including the 2011 title when he was a teammate of current Columbus head coach Gregg Berhalter.
The Galaxy will now enter the MLS SuperDraft without a first round selection for the first time since 2007 and just the third time in club history. LA hold the Crew's natural second round pick (23rd overall) and a fourth round pick (72nd overall) that they acquired in a July 2012 trade with the New York Red Bulls.
