D.C. United News Release
CHANTILLY, VA (April 2, 2004) - D.C. United announced today that forward Jaime Moreno has signed a contract with Major League Soccer. Moreno joins United's 18-man senior roster as a green-card international. Per team and league policies, the terms of the deal were not disclosed.
"We are thrilled that Jaime Moreno has rejoined D.C. United," said Dave Kasper, D.C. United Technical Director. "He has been an enormous part of this club's success and we look forward to having him back on the field this season."
Moreno rejoins the Black-and-Red following a 2003 trade that sent him to the MetroStars in exchange for Mike Petke and other considerations. Moreno made 11 appearances â with seven starts â with the MetroStars, suffering through injury problems. He scored a pair of goals, putting him fourth among all goal scorers in Major League Soccer history, surpassing Raul Diaz Arce. Moreno was placed on injured reserve in August after undergoing surgery to repair a pair of herniated discs in his back.
Moreno was a member of the original United squad, joining the Black-and-Red from Middlesbrough in the English Premier League. Moreno was the first and only Bolivian to play in the Premiership, and in 1994 was the youngest player representing Bolivia in the FIFA World Cup. Moreno was named to the MLS Best XI in 1997 and 1999 and earned the Golden Boot in 1997.
