D.C. United News Release
CHANTILLY, VA (April 2, 2004) - D.C. United announced today the continuation of the Good Sport Program for 2004. The second-year partnership between United, Capital Eagle, Anheuser-Busch, Aramark and the D.C. Sports & Entertainment Commission is a pledge to ensure a family-friendly atmosphere at RFK Stadium by encouraging fans to act responsibly and respect the rights of all fans in attendance.
"D.C. United is pleased yet again to be able to promote the Good Sport Program at our home games," said Catherine Marquette, Community & Fan Relations Director for D.C. United and Executive Director of United for D.C. "The purpose of this initiative is to appreciate the diverse ways in which all of our fans celebrate, while at the same time encouraging responsible and safe behavior."
At every D.C. United home game, interested fans can register at the Good Sport Program kiosk, located on the concourse of RFK Stadium just inside Gate A. With a pledge not to drink alcoholic beverages at that game, fans registering for the Good Sport Program are eligible to win the Good Sport Fan Pack, which includes a backpack, a D.C. United/Good Sport polo shirt, a hat and a mini ball autographed by D.C. United. All fans who register for the program receive a wristband designating them a "Good Sport Designated Driver," a coupon and cup from Aramark redeemable for a free soft drink or O'Doul's at any Budweiser concession stand throughout RFK Stadium, an O'Doul's phone card, a lighted sticker and a "Do the Ride Thing" keychain.
The Good Sport Program focuses on three areas: fan communication, staff training and a designated-driver program to combat drunk driving. At every D.C. United home game, United and their partners will promote the message of fan responsibility through an aggressive and comprehensive series of signs and announcements. To accompany this campaign, the D.C. Sports and Entertainment Commission and Aramark have designed a training program to assist concession staff and security personnel in recognizing potential problems before they develop. The final aspect of the Good Sport Program helps to combat the problem of fans driving under the influence. Through the Safe-Ride program, D.C. United, Aramark and RFK Stadium staff will encourage any fan who may find it necessary to arrange for a designated driver to take them home, or help arrange for a cab to take them home.
