D.C. United News Release
Washington, D.C. (September 15, 2010) - D.C. United announced today the club has signed 19-year-old Brazilian midfielder Junior Carriero. The attacking player has been training with the Black-and-Red for majority of 2010 after joining United as a guest player in March. Carriero will be available for selection pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate.
"Junior is a young player who has shown to us that he has the potential to become a good professional," said United General Manager Dave Kasper. "He has very good attacking qualities and can play a number of positions in midfielder. We look forward to getting him integrated into our team."
Carriero has thrived in training throughout 2010, and the young midfielder featured as a guest player for United in international friendlies against El Salvador and Portsmouth earlier in the campaign. Carriero has featured primarily on the flank, much like older brother and former D.C. United winger Fred.
Prior to joining the Black-and-Red, Carriero spent one season with Náutico of the Brazilian Série A before the club was relegated to the second division in 2009. He joins fellow winger Carlos Varela as a recent addition to United's roster this week.
