Washington, D.C. (October 30, 2013) - D.C. United today announced that the club has declined options on three players, including forwards Lionard Pajoy, Carlos Ruiz and midfielder Marcelo Saragosa. Ruiz and Saragosa are both eligible for the Re-Entry Draft.
"We would like to thank Lio, Marcelo and Carlos for their service to the club, and we wish them the best of luck in the future," said D.C. United General Manager Dave Kasper.
Joining the Black-and-Red in a mid-season trade with the Philadelphia Union in 2012, Pajoy played 32 games (23 starts) with United, tallying five goals and adding one assist. Over two MLS campaigns - including time with the Union - the 32-year-old appeared in 52 matches (39 starts) and notched 10 goals and three assists.
An eight-year veteran of the League, Ruiz signed with D.C. United via MLS allocation process on Feb. 20. The Guatemalan international made 13 appearances (five starts) with United, logging 528 minutes.
Saragosa signed with D.C. United on Feb. 6, 2012, having previously played with Chivas USA, FC Dallas and the LA Galaxy. The Brazilian midfielder made 24 total appearances (16 starts) for the Black-and-Red, tallying one goal and adding one assist.
