
D.C. United announces 2008 Major League Soccer schedule

Washington, D.C. (February 7, 2008) - Major League Soccer unveiled today its 2008 regular season schedule. In the League's 13th season, each of the 14 clubs will play 30 regular season games, for a total of 210 matches from March 29 to Oct. 26. Winners of 11 major domestic and international titles, including the Supporters' Shield each of the past two years, D.C. United kicks off the campaign during First Kick weekend on Saturday, March 29 in Kansas City with their home opener set for Saturday, April 5 against Toronto FC. The Black-and-Red welcome the Houston Dynamo to RFK Stadium on Wednesday, June 4 and the Los Angeles Galaxy for a nationally televised match on Sunday, June 29.
"We're pleased to be able to announce our schedule for the 2008 calendar year," said Executive Vice President Stephen Zack. "Taking into account the international and domestic competitions we're playing in, we have a lot of exciting soccer ahead of us. It's been a short three months since last season ended, but we're ready to get back on the field."
United's playing calendar will also include competition in several other international events. The Black-and-Red are set to battle Harbour View in CONCACAF Champions' Cup play on Wednesday, March 12 in Kingston, Jamaica and Tuesday, March 18 at RFK Stadium. Kick-off for the away leg is set for 7:00 ET, while the return match of the quarterfinal series is to begin at 7:30 p.m. ET. Tickets to the home match are included in D.C. United's full season plans as well as a variety of other ticket packages, while single game tickets to the match will go on sale on Monday, February 11 through all TicketMaster outlets. In addition, D.C. United is set to participate in U.S. Open Cup play and in SuperLiga action beginning in July, as well as the CONCACAF Champions' League in the fall. Those matches are to be announced at a later date.
Half of D.C. United's 30 regular season MLS games will be nationally televised by various League broadcast partners, including games on ABC, espn2, Fox Soccer Channel/Fox Sports en Español, HDNet and TeleFutura. The team's regional TV schedule on broadcast partner Comcast SportsNet, as well as the club's radio broadcasting plans for 2008, will be released in the coming weeks.
