Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
THIS PAST WEEK:
About Friday Night at Toledo: Chris Cahill's second period goal proved to be the game-winner as goaltender Brian Foster earned a 28-save shutout, lifting the Cyclones to a 3-0 victory over the Walleye in front of 8,200 at Huntington Center on Friday night. It was Foster's second blanking of the year and extended Cincinnati's season-long winning streak to five games.
About Tuesday Night vs. Kalamazoo: Anthony Luciani earned his first-career hat trick while Mathieu Aubin enjoyed a five-point night as the Cyclones flew past the Wings by an 8-5 final score in front of 5,525 at U.S. Bank Arena. It was the first time since January 14, 2009 that the Cyclones have put eight goals on the board in a single game. In addition to Luciani and Aubin, Dan Eves, Ryan Annesley, Evan Trupp, and Mike Pelech all earned multi-point efforts.
SHOTS FROM THE POINT:
Happy New Year: This week the Cyclones will open up 2012 with a four-game slate, all against non-division opponents. Although they haven't played many games outside of the North Division, they have had good success this year - posting a 4-1-1 record. On Wednesday night they will welcome in the Greenville Road Warriors to U.S. Bank Arena before traveling to face the Wheeling Nailers and Elmira Jackals for the first time this season on Friday-Sunday.
"Fozzie" Heads to The Show: Florida Panthers goaltender Jose Theodore was injured over the weekend, requiring the Panthers to fill a void in net. They decided to recall Cyclones netminder Brian Foster, who has gone 7-1 with a 2.64 goals-against average in his first eight starts for Cincinnati this season. It will be Foster's first-career trip to the NHL.
The Revolving Door Takes Another Turn: After claiming another victory on Friday, the Cyclones had more players get summoned by American Hockey League teams. Team Captain Mathieu Aubin has been loaned to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, where he will reunite with former Cyclone Benn Olson. In addition, defenseman David Leaderer was recalled to the Milwaukee Admirals. Cincinnati has a total of 16 players currently on recall or loan in the AHL.
A Month to Remember: The Cyclones capped off their second-best December record since returning to ECHL play in 2006. With their win over Toledo last Friday, the Clones wrapped up an 8-2 month. Although it was the second-most wins they've had in December, it was the fewest losses as well.
