Brooklyn Cyclones News Release

The Cyclones took the opener of a four game series from the New Jersey Cardinals on Wednesday afternoon, in front of a crowd of 7,879. Starter Brian Bannister (3-0) notched the win, going a solid five innings, allowing only one run.

The Cyclones fell behind by a score of 1-0 in the top of the third, but quickly answered New Jersey's run with three of their own in the bottom half. With two out, Jon Slack doubled home catcher Yunir Garcia. Slack then scored on Rashad Parker's bullet up the middle. Parker then stole his eighth base of the year, putting himself in scoring position with two outs. It turned out to be a successful risk, as first baseman Ian Bladergroen also ripped a single back through the middle, bringing home Parker.

It would be all the scoring the Cyclones would need, as relievers Tim Worthington, Joe Orloski, and closer Carlos Muniz combined to throw the last four innings of shutout baseball to close out the win, the Cyclones 16th of the year. The victory also keeps them in first place, at 16-5, with an 11-2 mark in their last 13.

The series continues tomorrow in New Jersey with a doubleheader, starting at 5 pm. Greg Ramirez and Ryan Danly will make starts for Brooklyn tomorrow.

Mets' reliever Mike Stanton is slated to make a rehab appearance for the Cyclones on Thursday at New Jersey.
