
Cyclones Rally From Two Down To Gain A Point

CINCINNATI, Ohio - The stat sheet will show that the Cincinnati Cyclones lost a 6-5 overtime decision to the Trenton Titans on Sunday. But it was a two goal effort from Cincinnati in the final 4:24 that should be remembered. Trailing 5-3 with 4:24 to go, Cincinnati got goals from Sam Ftorek and Jean-Michel Daoust to force the extra session. Mike Pandolfo's goal with 1:10 left in the extra frame provided the margin of victory for the Titans. Cincinnati extended its lead in the North Division to three points over Trenton with the effort.
The Cyclones opened the scoring in the first period as Cincinnati native Jason Deitsch collected his 20th goal of the season 3:24 into the frame. Sam Ftorek and Mathieu Aubin collected the assists on the score. Trenton responded with a pair of goals, the first coming from Rosario Ruggeri, his fourth, at 6:27 on the power play. At 10:24, Les Haggett deposited his 13th score of the season to give the Titans a 2-1 edge after the opening frame.
In the second period, the Cyclones tied the game in the first minute, when team captain Chad Starling netted his second goal of the season at 50 seconds. Deitsch and Jarred Mohr added the assists. Trenton returned the favor with a pair of goals in the final minute of the middle frame, when Benoit Mondou scored his tenth of the season with 37 seconds remaining and with three seconds left in the stanza, Jim Henkel picked up his 13th score of the season. The Titans took a 4-2 edge into the third period.
In the third period, Mathieu Aubin collected his seventh goal 52 seconds into the frame, with Mohr adding the assist. Scott Bertoli pushed the lead back to 5-3 for Trenton when he netted his tenth t 12:56. Cincinnati scored the last two goals of regulation time-as Ftorek netted his 14th at 15:36. For Ftorek, it was his fifth goal in the past three days, as Aubin and Deitsch gathered the assists. Then, at 18:37 (1:23 remaining), Jean-Michel Daoust tallied his 17th goal of the year, Matt Macdonald and Ftorek adding the helpers.
In the overtime, Mike Pandolfo collected his league-leading 33rd goal of the season at 3:50 to give the win to Trenton.
Cyclones goaltender Cedrick Desjardins made 27 saves in the overtime loss. Joel Martin picked up the win, stopping 30 shots in the triumph.
The Cyclones are 12-1-3 in the last 16 games at U.S. Bank Arena and today's game was the first of four in a row on home ice for the North Division leaders. Cincinnati is unbeaten in its last four games (3-0-1).
The Cyclones are now 24-16-2-2, holding a three point lead over Trenton for the North Division lead. Trenton is 22-16-1-4 and is in second place in the North Division. The Cyclones host Johnstown on Wednesday (Feb. 7) at 7:30pm at U.S. Bank Arena.
