Brooklyn Cyclones News Release
Brooklyn, NY - The Brooklyn Cyclones fell to the Wilmington Blue Rocks on Friday evening by the score of 1-0 in extra innings. The loss, coupled with a Hudson Valley win, but the Cyclones ý a game behind the Renegades with eight games left in the regular season.
Dominic Hamel made the start for Brooklyn and had his best outing since joining the Cyclones. The righthander tossed 7.0 shutout frames, scattering three hits while striking out nine. The 7.0 innings was a career-high for the 2021 third-round draft selection.
But as good as Hamel was, he was matched pitch for pitch by Wilmington's hurlers who managed to get Brooklyn to ground into four double plays on the night. Brooklyn's best chance to score a run came in the top of the first after Matt Rudick started the game with a double on the first pitch he saw and Alex Ramirez singled into left field to put runners on the corners with nobody out. But MLB rehabber LHP Evan Lee struck out JT Schwartz and got Jose Peroza to ground into a 5-4-3 double play to end the inning.
The only run of the game came in the top of the 10th when Paul Witt started the frame as the automatic runner at second base and moved up to third on a sacrifice bunt. Cody Wilson then singled through the right side of the infield to score what would prove to be the game-winning run.
In the bottom of the frame, Jose Mena swung at the first pitch he saw and flied out to left field, keeping Stanley Consuegra at second base. Shervyen Newton grounded out to first, advancing the tying run to third base, but Jaylen Palmer struck out to end the game.
Brooklyn will look to rebound on Saturday evening when they send RHP Jeffrey Colon to the mound. Game time is 6:00 PM, gates open at 4:30 PM. The first 2,000 fans in attendance will receive a Brandon Nimmo Bobblehead.
