KELLY CUP EASTERN CONFERENCE QUARTERFINALS - GAME 7
TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: After more than 81 minutes of hockey last night, the Toledo Walleye staved off elimination as they pushed this Eastern Conference Quarterfinals series to Game 5. Tonight, the Cyclones will again look to close out the best-of-seven match-up and advance into the second round. While they weren't successful last night, the Clones are 11-6 all-time in playoff series clinching games.
SCOUTING THE WALLEYE: For the second straight night, Nick Vitucci's club has its backs against the wall, needing another win to send this series back to Toledo. While Kyle Rogers, scored his first point of the series, he and Willie Coetzee (the leaders from the regular season) have combined for just two points. Six different players have a pair of points in the series. Notre Dame product Jordan Pearce played well last night, turning aside 33 shots to earn the double-OT win and will likely get the start again in Game 5. Pearce's goals-against average during the playoffs sits at 1.30. Kent Simpson, meanwhile, suffered his third loss in as-many games on Wednesday, after making just 24 saves. His goals-against average through three contests sits at 3.42.
About Game 4 Last Night: Toledo's Kyle Rogers netted his first goal of the series at 1:24 of double overtime to lift the Walleye to a 3-2 victory over the Cyclones in front of 2,538 at U.S. Bank Arena. The win helped Toledo stave off elimination.
Record Setter for Aubin: Cincinnati captain Mathieu Aubin is participating in his fifth playoff run with the Cyclones. Last night, he pulled into a tie with former captain Barret Ehgoetz for the club's all-time playoff goal scoring lead. Aubin has 19 lamp lighters in 64 career postseason games. Ehgoetz had 19 in 75 playoff contests.
Plenty of Bonus Hockey: The Cyclones and Walleye have played in a pair of overtime games in this series. Cincinnati's all-time record for most OT games in the postseason was in the 2010 year when four games went beyond 60 minutes.
