
Cyclones Finish Strong in 6-4 Win at Wheeling

WHEELING, West Virginia - A three goal explosion in the third period propelled the Cincinnati Cyclones to a 6-4 win at Wheeling on Sunday afternoon. Brandon Scero had a pair of goals to pace the offense, while Dustin Sproat dished off three assists in the victory.
The Cyclones jumped out a 2-1 lead in the first period with Justin Johnson opening the scoring at 3:14 from Dustin Sproat. Johnson collected his third goal of the season and second in two days in giving Cincinnati the early lead. The lead extended to 2-0 when Brandon Scero picked up his fifth of the season with a tight angle goal fired up the left side. T.J. McElroy had the assist on the score. Following a missed penalty shot by Wheeling's Chris Snavely-the Nailers scored off the ensuing faceoff in the Cyclones zone as Bryan Ewing one-timed a shot off the draw to the left of Ryan Nie for his 22nd goal of the year. Andrew Lord had the assist. The shots on goal favored Cincinnati, 9-5, in the period.
The second period saw the Nailers score in the opening minute to knot the scores. Jordan Morrison's 15th goal on the powerplay at 49 seconds came from Andrew Lord. The Cyclones regained the lead at 12:28, when Scero got his second of the afternoon and sixth of the year from the right faceoff circle from Ben McLeod and Ben Gordon. Morrison's goal 59 seconds later-another power play tally-levelled the scores at three. Cincinnati again won the shots battle, 12-5.
The Cyclones needed just 14 seconds of the third period to grab the lead when T.J. McElory fired his eighth goal from Barret Ehgoetz and Dustin Sproat. The lead extended to 5-3 when Ehgoetz collected his 13th from Mike Salekin and Sproat. Elgin Reid's eighth goal at 13:22 closed the lead to 5-4. Rookie Ben Gordon netted an insurance marker at 16:42, his sixth of the year from Mark Van Guilder and McElroy to close the scoring and secure the win. The shots again favored Cincinnati, 9-7, and for the game the Cyclones outshot the Nailers, 30-17.
Ryan Nie improved to 8-7-1 by stopping 13 shots. Curtis Darling stopped 24 shots in the defeat
The Cyclones are now 18-15-5 on the season, while Wheeling is 22-9-5. The Cyclones will host Wheeling at U.S. Bank Arena on Wednesday for a 7:30pm clash.
