Victoria Salmon Kings News Release
Victoria, BC - In a Saturday night match-up the Victoria Salmon Kings and Ontario Reign met for the second time in their two-game weekend set. Goaltender Julien Ellis started in net for the Kings while the Reign countered with John Murray.
The Reign scored the opening goal on the power play at 5:20 of the first period. Itan Chavira converted off a point shot that bounced off the end boards and onto his stick to bury the puck into an open net. The Reign would take the one goal lead into the first intermission.
The Salmon Kings tied the contest up 2:33 into the second period. Sean O'Connor scored his 10th goal of the season when he tipped a Tim Wedderburn point shot into the Reign's net. Wes Goldie, the ECHL's leading goal scorer, would add to the Kings lead with his 32nd goal of the season. Goldie picked up the puck in the high slot from linemate Olivier Filion and wired a shot past Murray at 9:28. A mere 16 seconds later Olivier Labelle would net his 11th goal of the season tipping another Wedderburn shot to extend the Kings lead. Patrick Coulombe would round out the scoring for the period when he took a Dylan Yeo pass, and after the initial save by Murray, he jammed the rebound home his third goal of the season. The second period would end with the Salmon Kings leading 4-1.
The Reign cut the deficit in half at 3:02 mark in the final frame, as Chris Curran found the puck between a Kings' defenseman legs and shot it past Ellis for his fourth goal of the season. Dan Gendur sealed a Salmon Kings 15th straight victory at 18:49 of the third period, scoring into the empty net. Salmon Kings 5 Reign 2.
