Cyclones Fall to Ft. Wayne
April 20, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
The Cincinnati Cyclones fell to the Ft. Wayne Komets, 8-0 on Wednesday night, in Game 3 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals. Despite the loss, the Cyclones still lead the best-of-seven series, 2 games to 1.
The Komets wasted little time finding the back of the net in Game 3, as 1:12 into the opening period, forward Alex Belzile lit the lamp to put Ft. Wayne ahead, 1-0. That lead became 2-0 a few minutes later when forward Troy Bourke capitalized off of a Cincinnati turnover and beat Cyclones netminder Brad Thiessen. The Komets added one more in the first from forward Kyle Thomas on the power play to take a 3-0 lead into the locker room after 20 minutes.
The Komets continued their forward motion early in the second when Belzile came in on a breakaway and scored shorthanded, extending Ft. Wayne's lead to 4-0, and chasing Thiessen from the game.
Ft. Wayne tacked on three more in the period including a pair from Shawn Szydlowski with one on the power play, and a lone tally from forward Garrett Thompson to give the Komets a 7-0 edge after two periods.
The Komets added one more in the third from Paul Crowder to seal the 8-0 win. The Komets outshot Cincinnati, 29-21 on the night, with Thiessen and goaltender Brandon Whitney combining to stop 21. The Cyclones return home for Game 4 on Friday night, with the faceoff slated for 7:35pm ET.
