Mavericks Push Mallards to Brink of Elmination
April 20, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Quad City Mallards News Release
MOLINE, Ill. - David de Kastrozza's shorthanded goal snapped a 2-2 deadlock with four minutes and 27 seconds left in regulation and the Missouri Mavericks went on to claim a 4-2 come-from-behind victory Wednesday night over the host Quad City Mallards, take a commanding three games to none lead in the best-of-seven ECHL Western Conference quarterfinals and push the Mallards to the brink of elimination heading into game four Friday night.
de Kastrozza gave the Mavericks their first lead of the evening with when his wrist shot from the left wing circle broke in off Mallard goaltender Brody Hoffman's glove. Reed Seckel then compounded the Mallards' misery by providing a vital insurance goal on a penalty shot with just two minutes and 49 seconds left. The Mavericks' three-goal third period rally had started just 47 seconds into final frame with Tyler Barnes' point-blank equalizer.
The Mallards had twice forged in front earlier in the night. It was the Mallards who were shorthanded when Matt Neal scored the game's first goal by burying Matt Carey's centering pass from close range at 4:05 of the first period. Missouri's Bryce Aneloski rifled home a rebound from the slot to even the score at one at 7:15 of the first. Olivier Archambault broke the tie with a wrist shot from the blue line at 5:38 of the second period but the Mavericks would rebound decisively in the third.
The Mallards host game four at 7:05 p.m. Friday night. If a fifth game is necessary, it will be played on Saturday nigh at 7:05 p.m. at the iWireless Center. Should a sixth game be required, the series will shift back to Missouri on Tuesday, April 26. If the series goes to a seventh game, the Mavericks would host the deciding contest on Wednesday, April 27.
