Brooklyn Cyclones News Release
CONEY ISLAND, NY - On a cold Thursday night, the Brooklyn Cyclones, the High-A affiliate of the New York Mets, rallied for four runs in the ninth inning before falling short, losing 7-6, to the Bowling Green Hot Rods at Maimonides Park in the third of six games in Brooklyn.
Win: Doxakis (1-1) | Loss: Chacin (0-1) | SV: Mullen (2)
Down 7-2 into the ninth inning, Brooklyn rallied with two outs to cut the deficit to one run. Wilmer Reyes, who had a two-run double in the bottom of the eighth, cleared the bases with a three-run double to cut it to 7-6 after Matt Rudick's run-scoring double earlier in the inning. With Reyes at third base after a wild pitch, Bowling Green's Sean Mullen induced a ground ball out, retiring Brandon McIlwain to end the threat and the game.
Bowling Green's John Doxakis, the No. 29 Tampa Bay prospect, struck out eight Cyclones hitters over six scoreless frames, allowing just four scattered baserunners in the victory.
Jose Chacin allowed two runs over five innings for Brooklyn, yielding a pair of runs at the end of his outing when Logan Driscoll drilled an RBI single in the fourth to make it 1-0 Hot Rods and Osleivis Basabe scored on an RBI groundout in the fifth to push the lead to 2-0.
The Cyclones bullpen, entering the game with a 1.64 ERA, good for the lowest ERA in Minor League Baseball, surrendered four late earned runs. Bowling Green crossed one against Colby Morris in the sixth before three runs on no hits against Evy Ruibal in the top of the seventh.
