Brooklyn Cyclones News Release
Brooklyn, NY - The Cyclones (26-22) rallied in the bottom of the eighth, only to come up short against the Tri-City ValleyCats by a single run, losing by a score of 7-6. The Brooklyn lineup matched punch-for-punch with the dangerous ValleyCats bats, crushing seven extra-base hits in the game, with five doubles and two triples.
Tri-City quickly jumped ahead of the Cyclones 4-0, with three runs in the first inning and adding one more in the fourth. The Cyclones manufactured their first run, in the bottom of the fourth, courtesy of a Jonel Pacheco walk, a line-drive double by Caleb Stewart, and an RBI ground-out by Nick Evans, scoring Pacheco from third. While the Cyclones pitching kept the Tri-City offense quiet, the âClones pulled within two runs in the sixth inning. Pacheco again ignited the scoring with a double, only to be replaced by Michael Sharpe due to an injury. Nick Evans singled, sending Sharpe to third, before scoring on Ivan Naccarata's RBI ground out.
The ValleyCats roared back with three runs in the top of the eighth inning to leave the Cyclones in a 7-2 hole with six outs to play. The Brooklyn bats came alive in the bottom of the eighth, pounding out four runs and five hits in the frame. It was an extra-base hit parade, as Naccarata and Gamero doubled, Malo followed with a deep drive off the left field fence resulting in a triple, and Butera roped another double to pull within 7-5. Centerfielder Joe Holden capped the scoring with an RBI single, but the impressive Cyclones rally would fall painfully short at 7-6.
Bobby Parnell (2-1) settled down after a rocky start to pitch four-plus innings, while allowing only one earned run, striking out four and walking none. Kyle Risinger and Joe D'Alessandro both turned in much-needed strong relief performances as well.
The Cyclones and ValleyCats square off on Thursday for the second game of the three game series, game time is set for 7:05pm. Great seats are still available and can be purchased over the phone by calling (718) 507-TIXX, logging on to www.brooklyncyclones.com, or in person at the KeySpan Park Box Office.
