
IronBirds start trip with 5-3 loss

The IronBirds began a six-game road trip vs. first-place teams, losing 5-3, Wednesday night vs. Auburn in front of 2,184 fans at Falcon Park. Auburn trailed 3-1 after four innings, but rallied with a 2-run 5th and 2-run 8th for its 4th win in a row.
The Doubledays, leading in the Pinckney division, scored twice off Bryan Dumesnil in the 8th to break a 3-3 tie. Auburn's Joey Metropoulos doubled in a run for a 4-3 lead and later a run scored on a wild pitch for a 5-3 margin.
Nolan Reimold's RBI 2B tied the game at 1 in the third inning and Aberdeen scored twice in the 4th to take a 3-1 lead. Mark Fleisher's homer to left made it 2-1 and Zack Davis walked, went to 3rd on Rob Marconi's 2B and scored the third run on a wild pitch. Fleisher's homer was his 5th of the year and 4th in his last 9 games. He went 1-3 and has hit safely in nine of ten games.
Starter Garrett Olson pitched five innings, allowing three runs, all earned, on three hits. He walked just one, fanned five and now has an ERA of 1.85.
Reimold knocked in his team-leading 30th run and is 9-22 during a 5-game batting streak. He has 25 extra-base hits on the year, tied for the league lead.
NOTES --- Aberdeen falls to 7-14 in road games and 18-30 on the season...........Aberdeen has hit seven homers in its last seven games.......Marconi went 2-4 and is hitting .440 (11-25) in August......Ryan Steinbach went 0-4 and his 9-game batting streak ended.............Brad Bergesen (1-3 6.93) will start Thursday at 7:05pm for the Birds.............catch every IronBird game on the air live on AM 970 WAMD or on the net at ironbirdsbaseball.com.
