BATAVIA, NY --- After the Batavia Muckdogs had rallied from a 5-2 deficit with four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, the Vermont Expos rallied themselves in the top of the ninth with five runs for a 10-6 New York-Penn League victory Wednesday night at Dwyer Stadium.

The Expos led 5-2 in the eighth inning when Batavia scored four runs on six hits off reliever Warmar Gomez to take a 6-5 lead. Gomez had allowed just one earned run in his previous 10.2 innings of work.

But Vermont scored its five runs in the ninth on four hits, one walk and one hit batter before the Muckdogs could retire an Expos hitter in the inning. Greg Thissen led off the ninth with a walk and scored the tying run on a RBI double from Leonard Davis.

Davis then scored the winning run on a Dee Brown RBI single for a 7-6 lead. After a hit batter and passed ball, John Poppert singled home Brown and Mike Daniel followed with a two-run single for the 10-6 Expos lead. The two-run single gave Daniel, who was 3-for-5 on the night, five RBI for the game.

Vermont had taken a 1-0 lead right away as Francisco Plasencia led off the game with a home run to right. It was Plasencia's sixth home run of the season and the second leadoff homer of the year for the Expos.

The Muckdogs got their two runs off Expos starter John Lannan in the third, but Vermont tied the game in the fifth on an RBI single from Plasencia to score Daniel.

Daniel then gave Vermont a 5-2 lead in the sixth inning with a two-out, three-run homer to right field. It was Daniel's second home run of the season and his first since June 26th. It was also just the third three-run homer of the year for the Expos and the first since Carlos Torres at Tri-City on June 30th.

Lannan allowed two runs on six hits with two walks and five strikeouts over six innings, while Gomez (1-1) picked up the win despite allowing four runs on seven hits in his two innings of work. Davis added three hits for Vermont, while Plasencia had two hits and two RBI on the night.

Vermont (18-31) is now 9-5 in its last 14 games after beginning the season 9-26. Wednesday was also just the second time this season that the Expos have won when trailing after eight innings and Vermont is now 4-2 in the first game of a roadtrip.

This roadtrip continues on Thursday night with the second of a three-game series at Batavia with Ricky Shefka getting the start for the Expos.
