Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
Fairborn, OH -- The Cincinnati Cyclones are going to the 2003 East Coast Hockey League Kelly Cup Playoffs.
The Cyclones clinched a spot in the post-season with a 2-0 win over the Dayton Bombers on Sunday. Earlier in the day, the Johnstown Chiefs lost a 5-4 decision to Toledo which mathematically qualified Cincinnati for the playoffs.
Cincinnati has made the playoffs in 12 of their 13 seasons of continuous operation. The lone blemish was the team's inaugural season in the former International Hockey League (1992-93).
Following two scoreless periods on Sunday, veteran forward Mike Casselman scored with just 1:08 left in regulation to break the scoreless game. Defenseman Greg Labenski would add an empty-net goal for the final margin of victory.
Goaltender Greg Hewitt, making his second appearance since coming back from the injured reserve list, turned aside 44 shots for his second shutout win of the season.
The Cyclones play host to the Wheeling Nailers on Tuesday at U.S. Bank Arena.. The game is set for a 7:05 PM opening face-off.
