Cyclones/Applebee's Host Chicken Wing Eating Contest

Brooklyn, NY, August 11, 2004 -Ferocious appetites and hungry determination will fill KeySpan Park on Sunday, August 15th at the Brooklyn Cyclones and Applebee's Boneless Chicken Wing Contest. Top eaters from around the United States will gorge themselves methodically or recklessly at 4:30 PM before the game against Cal Ripken's Aberdeen IronBirds. No bones, no table manners just tasty juicy meat (and a lot of it) for these wing-men. "We are excited to see the contestants in our ballpark display a different kind of athleticism," said Steve Cohen, General Manager of the Brooklyn Cyclones. "Eating contests are fun, dynamic and challenging. We are happy to give our fans the chance to participate or watch."

"Gentleman" Joe Menchetti, Arnie "Chowhound" Chapman and Eddie "The Geek" Vidmar, all professional eaters, will go head to head with Cyclones fans to devour as many pounds of Applebee's Boneless Chicken Wings as possible within the allotted time of six minutes. Each contestant will begin the competition with four pounds of chicken wings.

Winners will be determined by counting the number of pounds of chicken wings eaten. Contestants will be disqualified for false or incomplete entry, starting prior to start signal, failure to completely finish a chicken wing prior to beginning another one, eating after the signal or vomiting.

The grand prize will be $200 in cash, $75 in Applebee's gift certificates and the Boneless Chicken Wing Trophy. Second place winner will receive $100 cash prize and $50 in Applebee's certificates. Third place winner will receive $50 cash prize and $30 in Applebee's gift certificates.

About the Contestants

"Gentleman" Joe Menchetti is currently ranked #6 in the world by speedeat.com and #7 in the world by the Association of Independent Competitive Eaters. Joe is regarded as one of America's most accomplished Gurgitators and is New England's undisputed Competitive Eating Champion. The "Gentleman's" eating resume includes world records in beef Patties, sweet corn, fried cicada's and conch fritters. When he's not eating for cash, he works as a Corporate Spokesperson and Ticket Broker.

Arnie "Chowhound" Chapman is currently ranked #11 in the world by speedeat.com and #15 in the world by the Association of Independent Competitive Eaters. The "Chowhound" boasts victories in hotdogs, pickles and chicken wings. One of his most outstanding eating feats was his Chicken Wing Victory in Madison Square Garden where he ate 108 chicken wings in just 8 minutes. The "Chowhound" currently works as a Counselor for the NYS Commission for the Blind.

Eddie "The Geek" Vidmar is ranked #31 in the world by the Association of Competitive Eaters is a relative newcomer to the world of competitive eating. Eddie won top honors in the Scorchers Heart Burn Challenge where he consumed two pounds and four ounces of chicken in only 12 minutes. "The Geek" recently won third place in Franks Red Hot Chicken Wing contest in Pittsburgh. Eddie is a Vietnam Vet and now works as a computer consultant.
