Cyclones Add Forward Hans Benson
October 8, 2009 - ECHL (ECHL)
Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Cincinnati Cyclones, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Montreal Canadiens and Nashville Predators, announced this morning that forward Hans Benson has reported to camp. Benson had previously been with the San Antonio Rampage (American Hockey League) during their training camp.
Benson, 25, spent last season in the American Hockey League (AHL) with Springfield, appearing in 35 games and notching an assist to go with 98 penalty minutes. Hans also was involved in 15 fights during the campaign.
The six-foot, 210 pounder from Menlo Park, CA enters his sixth pro season this year. He has appeared in 240 games as a professional and has collected 13 goals and 27 assists for 40 points. Benson also has 1051 career penalty minutes and has been involved in 108 fights as a pro. During 2007-08, Hans spent the year with Peoria (AHL) and played in 44 games, netting three goals and four assists for seven points while tallying 265 penalty minutes (fourth-most in the league) and participated in 25 fights. His career high for fights in a season is 29-set in 2005-06 while with Laredo (Central Hockey League).
Benson has ties to the Cincinnati area, as his second cousin Cedric is the starting running back for the Bengals. Cedric is in his fifth pro season (second with the Bengals) and collected 747 yards rushing and a pair of touchdowns last season. It is the first time that the two have played in the same city during their professional careers.
"Hans Benson will be one of the most physical players in the ECHL," Cyclones Head Coach Chuck Weber said. "He is one of those guys that everyone in the building knows his location when he hits the ice."
The Cyclones currently have 25 players in camp and will prepare for their season opening game on Friday night (Oct. 16) at Elmira. The game will be carried on 1530-AM The Sports Animal with a 7pm air time.
Tickets for the 2009-10 Cincinnati Cyclones season are now on sale. The Cyclones Sales Department can be reached at 513-421-PUCK, extension 3. The Cyclones open the season at Elmira on Friday, October 16 and after three road games, host their home opener at U.S. Bank Arena against Wheeling on Saturday, October 24 at 7:30pm. There will be a special divisional championship banner raising ceremony prior to that game.
