New Haven County Cutters News Release

WEST HAVEN, CT- The New Haven County Cutters struggling offense came alive late in the ball game Friday night as they used a four run seventh to shutout the Atlantic City Surf 6-0 at Historic Yale Field.

The Cutters got a solo home run by LF Henri Stanley (7) and a three-run bomb by 1B Chris Gaskin (4) to bury the Surf in the bottom of the seventh inning after an intense pitchers duel through the first six innings.

Kevin Culpepper was brilliant again but didn't get the win as Coogie Freedman was equally impressive for the Surf. Freedman left after five and one third of scoreless four-hit baseball. Culpepper left after six allowing no runs and just three hits.

Adam Piechowski (6-1) was nasty picking up the victory in relief of Culpepper, pitching three innings of no hit baseball to slam the door on the Surf and tie the series up at one game a piece.

The Cutters put the finishing touches on the night scoring two runs in the bottom of the eighth when 3B Junior Zamora smacked a two RBI double that scored CF Ervin Alcantara and LF Henri Stanley to make it 6-0.

The Cutters will head down to Atlantic City tomorrow night as the try to work themselves back into playoff contention. Bucky Kosyk (4-0) will take the mound for the Cutters, Brian Rodaway (12-3); the Can-Am's win leader will throw for the Surf. Game time is set for 7:05 P.M.
