New Jersey Scores Three in Ninth to Beat Garces, Pride

(NASHUA, NH, August 17, 2007) The New Jersey Jackals rallied for three runs in the ninth inning off Nashua closer Rich Garces, snapping a 2-2 tie and going on to a 5-2 victory over the Pride on Friday night at Historic Holman Stadium in front of 1,218 fans. The New Jersey victory snapped Nashua's four-game home winning streak.

Joe Mihalics put New Jersey ahead to stay with a one out single in the ninth. Sandy Madera's sacrifice fly scoring Mihalics put the Jackals up by two and Wilton Veras'RBI single gave New Jersey a three-run cushion with all the damage done against Garces who drops to 6-3 on the season.

Pride starter Tim Bausher went five innings and allowed just one unearned run but he was ejected from the game after five innings by home plate umpire Matt Criss for arguing balls and strikes. Joe Gannon took over and allowed one run over two innings before giving way to Steve Palazzolo who hurled a perfect eighth.

New Jersey starter Joel Bennett went seven innings, allowing seven hits, two runs (both earned), he walked two and struck out two. Reliever Kevin Fitzgerald (3-1) earned the win by pitching scoreless ball in the eighth and ninth innings.

Bryan Duplissie accounted for the only Pride scoring on a two-run homer in the seventh inning, his 14th of the season.

Game three of the series will be played Saturday night at 7:05 in Nashua. Jason Kosow (RHP, 2-4, 3.08) will pitch for the Pride. Lefty Kevin Ool (1-2, 4.95) is scheduled to pitch for the Jackals.
