Williamsport Crosscutters News Release

The Williamsport Crosscutters open the 2012 season in the win column by beating the State College Spikes 6-2, thanks in part to 5 errors by State College

Crosscutters leadoff hitter Roman Quinn used his legs to put Williamsport ahead 1-0 in the top of the first inning. After legging out an infield single, Quinn reached 2nd Base on an error, before stealing 3rd Base and coming home on a throwing error by Spikes Catcher Ryan Hornback.

Williamsport would increase its lead to 3-0 in the 2nd inning on a line-drive 2-run triple down the right field line by Tyler Greene.

After two Spikes runs in the 5th inning, Williamsport scored three in the 6th. Chase Numata punched a grounder up the middle to plate Yan Carlos Olmo to make it 4-2, before Tyler Greene scored on an error and Brock Stassi slapped an RBI-single over the head of 1st Baseman Jared Lakind to make it 6-2.

Crosscutters Starter Joshua Warner allowed just 2 runs on 2 hits through six innings and picked up the win. None of Williamsport's 6 runs were earned, as State College committed 5 errors in the game.

Williamsport plays Game 2 of the Saw-Buck Series Tuesday in a 7:05pm matchup at State College. Every Cutters game can be heard on ESPN Radio 104.1 FM, ESPN 1050 AM, or online at crosscutters.com
