Romero's two homeruns lead Scrappers to Opening Day win

Juan Romero made sure that the Mahoning Valley Scrappers started the 2012 season the right way. Romero blasted two homeruns to lead the Scrappers to an 8-5 win in the season opener. Romero connected on a three run blast in the 6th inning to break a 4-4 tie. He followed that up with a solo shot in the top of the 8th.

Geoff Davenport started for Mahoning Valley. He went 3.2 innings allowing 3 earned runs while walking 2 and striking out two. Luis Morel relieved Davenport and pitched 2.1 innings to pick up his first win of the season. Morel struck out two and walked two. Enosil Tejeda pitched a perfect 9th inning to earn his first save of the season.

Jamestown starter Helpi Reyes lasted only 3 innings, allowing 3 earned runs on 5 hits. He walked one while striking out 2. Reyes was relieved by Jacob Esch who pitched a scoreless inning before giving way to James Wright. Wright would take the loss after allowing Romero's 3 run homer in the 6th.

The Scrappers return to action tomorrow night as the wrap up the two game series with Jamestown at 7:05. The Scrappers then return home for Wednesday night's home opener against the Jammers. Call the Scrappers box office at 330-505-0000 to get your tickets.
