Spinners Take Season-Opener with a 2-1 Win

LOWELL, MA-The Lowell Spinners (1-0) scored two runs in the seventh inning to come back for a 2-1 win over the Connecticut Tigers (0-1) before 5,249 fans at LeLacheur Park on Monday night.

The Tigers scored an unearned run against Lowell LHP Francisco Taveras in the third inning. DH Edgar Corcino (2-3) hit a one-out single and moved to second base on a wild pitch. After 2B Carlos De Los Santos (1-4) struck out, SS Jared Reaves (1-4) reached first base on a throwing error by Lowell SS Mookie Betts. Corcino scored for a 1-0 Connecticut lead.

Connecticut RHP Montreal Robertson pitched five scoreless innings in his first start of 2012. He allowed just three hits without issuing a walk and struck out six.

LF Seth Schwindenhammer (0-3) led off the seventh inning for Lowell by striking out. SS Mookie Betts (1-4) singled and stole second base. C Oscar Perez (1-3) followed with an RBI double to score Betts and tie the game at 1-1.

2B Dreily Guerrero (2-4) followed with a single to move Perez to third base. 3B Matt Gedman (1-4) singled to left field to score Perez and give Lowell a 2-1 lead.

RHP Yunior Ortega (1-0) pitched three scoreless innings to get the win. RHP Tyler Barrett (1-0) took the loss by pitching an inning and two-thirds for the Tigers.

The Tigers and Spinners finish their series on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. RHP Edgar De La Rosa (2-4, 3.19 GCL Tigers in 2011); gets the start for the Tigers against LHP Zack Good (0-1, 1.88, GCL Red Sox in 2011); for the Spinners.
