Spikes Home Opener Set for Tuesday Night

(STATE COLLEGE, PA) - State College Spikes fans of all ages will enjoy the return of fun, affordable family entertainment and future Major League Baseball stars Tuesday night as the Spikes hit the field to begin the 2012 home slate at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. The Spikes, the Class-A Short-Season affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, will host the Williamsport Crosscutters (Philadelphia Phillies) at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. The first pitch is scheduled to fly at 7:05 p.m., and all of the evening's action is presented by PSECU and 95.3 FM 3WZ.

The festivities begin when the gates open at the special times of 4:45 p.m. for season ticket holders, 4:50 p.m. for group ticket holders and 5 p.m. for the general public. The first 3,000 fans through the gates will receive a Spikes Schedule Magnet, presented by PSECU. Local favorites Shake Shake Shake will peform live music on the concourse behind home plate from 4:45 to 6 p.m., and fans will also be able to sample the rebranded ballpark food menu.

Fans can then look to the skies as Skydive Happy Valley will present a skydiving performance from 10,000 feet in the air and presents the baseball for the ceremonial first pitch to Penn State head football coach Bill O'Brien, who will also be interviewed on the field in the first inning.

The 2012 Spikes will also be given a very special introduction onto the field worthy of Coach O'Brien's Nittany Lions, aided by a Human Tunnel formed by the players and coaches of the 2011 Keystone Little League World Series team.

Once the dust settles from the Spikes and Crosscutters battling on the field, the skies will light up over Happy Valley with an EXTENDED FIREWORKS show with a Pop Music theme.

The Home Opener will mark the first of five home dates in six days as part of Spikes Opening Week from June 19-24. Single-game tickets for Opening Week, as well as all 38 Spikes regular season home games, are currently on sale through the Spikes Box Office by calling (814) 272-1711 or by visiting in person weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fans can also buy and print single-game tickets at StateCollegeSpikes.com.
