Williamsport Crosscutters News Release

The Crosscutters offense came alive Saturday night, but the defense and pitching struggled in a 12-11 loss to Batavia.

Roman Quinn hit his first professional home run, a long overdue feat that was met with thunderous applause from the Bowman Field crowd.

Chris Serritella also went 4-for-5, his first four-hit game of his pro career.

But defensive sloppiness doomed the Cutters. Williamsport committed four errors as four of the Muckdogs' twelve runs were unearned.

Williamsport jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Mitch Walding drove in two with a single in the first, before Tyler Greene hit a sac fly in the second. Walding finished with fourth RBI, his largest total since June 22nd.

But Batavia answered with four runs in the third, three of which were unearned after errors by Walding and Greene.

Larry Greene doubled to tie the game in the third, before Quinn hit his first homer in the fourth. It was a two-run liner to right field that gave Williamsport a 6-4 lead. Greene reached base four times in the ballgame.

The Crosscutters would up that lead to 7-4 in the fifth, but Batavia answered with a six-run sixth inning. David Washington added a towering homer in the seventh.

Trailing 12-7, Chace Numata hit a two-run single in the seventh inning, but Greene struck out with two outs and the bases loaded.

In the ninth, Numata added a sac fly before Walding doubled to score Numata, but Kevin Quaranto struck out with the tying run in scoring position as the Cutters drop their fourth straight and fall to 27-45 on the year.

The Cutters start a two-game set at rival State College on Sunday at 6:05. Every Cutters game can be heard on ESPN Radio 104.1 FM, ESPN 1050 AM, or online at crosscutters.com.
