New Jersey Jackals News Release

Little Falls, NJ – The New Haven County Cutters brought out the heavy lumber in the early innings, and downed the New Jersey Jackals, by a final score of 8-2. It was New Haven's first win against the Jackals in nine contests.

Hector Lebron notched an RBI double for the Cutters, in the bottom of the first, putting them ahead early.

In the second, six New Haven singles spelled doom for the Jackals' Jackson Crowther. Luis Santiago drove in one, Lebron pushed across two, and Hurst also drove in one. After the four run outpouring, the Cutters led 5-0.

The Cutters ended Crowther's night in the bottom of the third. They added three more runs on a base clearing single, and an error, with the bases loaded, by Jeff Brooks. New Haven led the game 8-0.

In the ninth, the Jackals broke up Wes Mindigall's shutout. After a walk, Darren Ciraco tallied a two-run homerun, his first as a member of the Jackals.

Jackson Crowther lasted only two and one third innings of work. On 11 hits, he gave up eight runs, seven earned, while walking one and striking out two. He suffered his ninth loss of 2004. Dave Therneau pitched extremely well out of the bullpen for New Jersey. He went four and two thirds, while scattering three hits, walking two, and striking out seven.

Wes Mindigall pitched eight innings, while only giving up five hits, and two earned runs. He walked three batters, and struck out two. He was awarded the win.

For the Jackals, Darren Ciraco was 1-4 with a two-run homerun.

Hector Lebron reached base five times, including four hits, and three RBI.

Both game times are scheduled for 7:05 p.m. If necessary, a deciding game five will be played on Sunday, September 12, 2004, with a 5:05 p.m. start. New Jersey Jackals' shortstop Chris Rowan eclipsed the team record for homeruns as a member of the ballclub, on Friday, August 7, 2004. Rowan hit his 29th as a member of the Jackals, and 17th of the 2004 season, eclipsing Travis Bailey's record of 28. On Thursday August 12, 2004, Rowan also broke the league record for grand slams in a season. In an 8-5 win over Quebec, Rowan belted his third grand slam of 2004 in the bottom of the eighth inning.

On Tuesday, August 3, 2004, Jackals' starting pitcher Aaron Myers was named the Rawlings Northeast League Player of the Month. Myers went 4-1 in the month of July, with a 1.06 ERA. In 34 innings of work, Myers scattered 29 hits while striking out 38. Also during the month, Myers tossed a complete game, seven inning shutout of the Elmira Pioneers, in which he struck out eleven batters. At the time of the award, Myers was second in the Northeast League in strikeouts with 75.

The game scheduled between the New Jersey Jackals and the Elmira Pioneers on Wednesday, August 4, 2004, was suspended due to rain, entering the bottom of the third inning. New Jersey held a 3-0 lead over Elmira, partially due to a two-run homerun by Jay LaFlair. Because of the rain, the Elmira grounds crew worked till after the scheduled start time to get the field playable. The game did not get underway till after 9:00 p.m. The game will be continued on Wednesday, September 1, 2004, at 5:00 p.m., at Yogi Berra Stadium. The first game will begin in the bottom of the third, and will go a full nine innings. The second contest will be seven innings.
