New Haven County Cutters News Release

(West Haven, CT- August 25, 2004) The New Haven County Cutters snapped a nine-game losing streak with an 8-2 thrashing of the New Jersey Jackals in their final meeting of the season.

The Cutters rocked Jackal starter Jackson Crowther for eleven hits and eight runs in 2 1/3 innings pitched in his only start against New Haven this season. The 2003 Northeast League All-Star faced 15-batters in the second and third innings combined.

Hector Lebron rocked New Jersey pitching to the tune of a 4-for-4 night with a pair of doubles, 3 RBI and a walk. Lebron drove in PJ Johnston in the first on an RBI double and drove in two more on a two out single in the second inning.

New Haven Starter Wes Mindingall was sharp on the mound retiring 11-batters in a row at one point. Mindingall recorded his second win with an eight inning pitching performance where he allowed five hits.

Jeff Brooks cleared the bases with nobody out in the third inning with the bases loaded. He lashed a single out to center that was misplayed by Zach Smithlin and Brooks was thrown out at the plate trying to come around and score on the two-base error. Brooks went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI and a run scored.

Billy Rich also racked up three hits in a game where every cutters player delivered a hit.

Mindingall's complete game shutout bid was spoiled in the ninth by a familiar face. Former teammate Darren Ciraco hit a two-run jack, his first with the Jackals.

The Cutters hit the road for their final road trip of the season on Friday night opening up a four-game set against the Pioneers with Saturday and Sunday's games broadcast on AM 1150 WMRD. New Haven returns home to open up their final home stand of the season on September 1st that will go through Labor Day weekend.
