New Haven County Cutters News Release
Hispanic Heritage, UConn's Maria Conlon, Free T-Shirts, Dog Day, All Part of Cutters' Homestand July 29-August 4 Baseball and promotions will share the stage when the New Haven County Cutters get back from their swing through Quebec and Maine and resume Northeast League play at West Haven's Yale Field on Thursday, July 29. The homestand runs seven consecutive days, wrapping up with a 12:05 p.m. Summer Camp matinee on August 4.
While the Cutters' quest for a second half championship in the Southern Division will be part of every game, special events will make this series of games against Quebec and the traveling Aces especially festive.
The special events start with a "tripleheader" the opening night of the homestand, July 29, when the first 1,000 fans will receive a complimentary T-shirt from Campus Customs and NBC30, draft beer will be sold at $1.00 and the area band Green Inside will provide a post-game concert for all in attendance.
That's just the beginning, with Latino Night Fiesta, a celebration of Hispanic heritage, Friday night (July 30) and Valley Night on Saturday (July 31), featuring a visit from Maria Conlon, who went from the Valley to stardom on the University of Connecticut's three-time NCAA women's basketball champion team. The busy weekend comes to a conclusion Sunday afternoon when fans are invited to bring their pooches to the park for a pre-game parade.
More details follow:
Green Inside to Rock Yale Field With Live Music July 29
Fans who attend the Thursday, July 29 Cutters game will be able to enjoy the summer's first live concert at Yale Field when area band Green Inside brings its soulful pop-rock act to West Haven. The band, which consists of electric and acoustic guitars, drums, and vocals, will perform upon the conclusion of the 7:05 p.m. game against the Quebec Capitales.
Green Inside has three four-song albums, Live in Studio A, Red, and Blue, and is currently working on its first full-length album.
âLatino Night Fiesta' at Yale Field July 30

UConn's Maria Conlon to Be Honored at July 31 âValley Night'
The Cutters will host "Valley Night," a benefit for the Boys and Girls Club of the Lower Naugatuck Valley, at the Saturday, July 31 game against Quebec at 7:05 p.m. The night will feature Maria Conlon, the dependable backcourt standout for the three-time NCAA Women's Basketball Champion Connecticut Huskies. She will throw out the ceremonial first pitch and sign autographs afterward.
Conlon grew up in Derby and starred on the court for Seymour High School before becoming the only life-long Connecticut resident to be a part of the Huskies' championship run. She made her reputation as a skilled ball-handler and a dangerous shooter from the perimeter.
Cutters Calling All Canines August 1
The dog days of summer begin quite literally at Yale Field on Sunday, August 1, when families and their special four-legged friends are invited for an afternoon of Cutters baseball to benefit the East Haven Animal Shelter. For the 2:05 p.m. game, the Cutters will have a pre-game Pooch Parade on the field, between-inning dog tricks showcases and special prize drawings throughout the afternoon. There will also be a special seating section with a watering station for dogs and their families.
All dogs wishing to come to the game must remind their owners to bring proof of current vaccinations and a $3.00 donation for the East Haven Animal Shelter in order to be admitted.
Let Your Voice Be Heard at âBobble-Election' August 2
In a month filled with news from national conventions in a busy election year, one of the 2004 presidential campaign's more unique showdowns will take place at Yale Field's "Bobble-Election" at the Monday, August 2 Cutters game. Fans attending the 7:05 p.m. contest against the Aces will turn their attention from news networks' talking heads to bobblehead representations of President George W. Bush and Democratic challenger John Kerry as they decide which candidate best represents the voice of Cutters fans.
Each fan attending the game will receive a special voucher to redeem for either a Bush bobblehead doll or a Kerry doll. Five hundred of each bobblehead will be available. Whichever candidate's doll was chosen the most by fans will be declared the winner of "Bobble-Election 2004."

Ciraco Swinging Hot Bat in First Two Weeks
Since joining the team as a free agent two weeks ago, outfielder Darren Ciraco has made the Cutters' brass look smart. The 23-year-old from New Rochelle, NY went 2-for-2 with a double and a run batted in coming off the bench in his Cutters debut, helping his club to a 9-3 victory over Elmira July 10. Since then, he has found his way into the starting lineup, going 10-for-26, including two home runs, one of which tied a game as the Cutters rallied from behind to win and the other a two-run blast that provided all the offense needed in a 2-1 victory over Bangor.
Ciraco, a former Chicago White Sox draft pick, was 12-for-28 (.429) with six runs batted in and 4 runs scored through the all-star break. He has also shown off his trademark strong arm, notching his first outfield assist against the Aces at the end of the first half.
McCarthy Adds Gritty Veteran Relief
At age 35, he may be older than every Cutter in uniform except his manager, 37-year-old Jarvis Brown, but lefthanded reliever Greg McCarthy has been every bit as sharp as the Cutters could have hoped since signing with the team in early July.
In 8.0 innings spread across five appearances through the all-star break, the Connecticut native has yet to give up a run and has only allowed seven baserunners. Meanwhile, McCarthy has struck out nine and he notched his first save July 13 in a 2-0 victory against the Aces.
McCarthy, who was born in Norwalk and lives nearby in Shelton, made 76 appearances for the Seattle Mariners from 1996-98 (2-3, 4.74), and has 585 professional career appearances with a 47-39 record.
Baseball School Scheduled August 9-11
Young fans ages 6-13 will have their chance to learn the inside secrets of the game from the Cutters when the team hosts its first ever Cutters Baseball School, sponsored by New Alliance Bank, August 9-11. In addition to personalized instructions directly from the players, participants will receive a daily lunch (hot dog and soda) and a Cutters Baseball School T-shirt.
To celebrate graduation from the Cutters Baseball School, each participant will receive two free tickets, with additional tickets available for purchase, to the August 11 game at 7:05 p.m., where they will be introduced on the public address system and be recognized on the field before the game.
Interested families can register children at the Cutters' Yale Field offices or over the phone by contacting Pete Maki at (203) 777-5636, extension 28.
Full payment ($125.00) must be received by the first day of camp, along with a waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian.
For game tickets, visit the Cutters box office from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday or during games. Tickets are also available by calling (203) 777-5636 or by visiting www.CuttersBaseball.com or www.Etix.com.
