New Haven County Cutters News Release
Bangor, ME- The New Haven County (27-28) were beaten 12-4 by the Bangor Lumberjacks (31-23) on Monday night dropping their overall record under .500 for the first time since June 13th. The twelve runs scored by the Lumberjacks are the most allowed by the Cutters pitching staff this season.
In an effort to save his bullpen, manager Jarvis Brown summoned outfielder Billy Rich to pitch the bottom of the eighth inning. The Meriden, Connecticut native impressed, retiring the Lumberjacks in order. It was the only inning all game that Bangor did not have a batter reach base.
Down 11-0 in the sixth, the Cutters scored twice, including a RBI single by Aussie second basemen Gavin Fingleson.
The Cutters scored twice more in the ninth against Bangor reliever Laine McKeller. Darren Ciraco hit a ground rule RBI double scoring Hector Lebron and catcher Nick Hiter also added a RBI single.
With a second inning single, Ciraco extended his hitting streak to thirteen games, the longest current streak in the Northeast League.
The Lumberjacks blew open a 3-0 game with four runs in both the third and fourth innings. Bangor catcher Brad Hargreaves reached base five times, going 3-for-3 with two walks and four runs scored.
Bangor starter Matt Scheuing was the benefactor of all the run support, going seven innings allowing two runs on four hits to earn his sixth victory of the year. Previous to Monday night fs starts, Scheuing was 0-2 against the Cutters, his only losses of the year.
New Haven starter Jordy Alexander lasted only three innings and takes the loss dropping his record to 5-3 on the season. Lefty reliever A.J. Brack struck out five batters in three innings.
After every Friday night home game this summer, a fireworks show will light up the New Haven sky. "Win Jonathan Fleisig's Money" is during every Saturday Game at Yale Field where fans can actually win money from the owner of the Cutters for watching and enjoying a night at the ballpark. Every Sunday is a WEBE 108 Family FUNday with plenty of entertainment to keep all ages entertained.
