New Haven County's Forbes and Bangor's Thomas named NEL players of the week

Durham, N.C. -- New Haven County's Kevin Forbes and Bangor's Adam Thomas were selected by SportsTicker as the Northeast League's Batter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, on Monday, July 26. While each player garnered their first honor this season, it's the fifth time a Lumberjack has been tabbed and third occasion for a Cutter.

Forbes went 9-for-17 last week for a .529 batting average. Four of his nine hits were doubles to give him a slugging percentage of .765 Forbes scored four runs and recorded an on-base percentage of .556 for New Haven County. This is his fifth year of professional baseball and second in the Northeast League. Forbes was drafted by the Montreal Expos in the 29th round in 1996.

Thomas tossed seven innings of two-hit ball in Bangor's 8-1 win over Brockton on Friday, July 23 to earn his fifth victory of the season. He allowed no runs and struck out four, while walking three. Thomas was selected by the Angels in 1999 MLB draft and is in his first year with the Northeast League.
