Altoona Curve News Release
HARRISBURG, Pa. - In the first game out of the All-Star break, Aaron Shackelford and Andres Alvarez both hit home runs for the Curve. Despite the pair of knocks, Senators' pitching punched out 13 batters as Altoona fell to Harrisburg, 7-5, to snap a four-game winning streak on Friday night at FNB Field.
The Curve (12-7, 45-43) scored two runs from the two solo knocks, with Shackelford's team-leading 16th home run of the season coming in the second inning to make it a 1-1 game and Alvarez following with a shot in the sixth for his 14th to make it 5-2. Both home runs came off the Senators (6-13, 36-52) starter, Ronald Herrera (W, 4-6), who struck out six over six innings with the two runs allowed on four hits.
Fabricio Macias tacked on three more runs in the top of the eighth inning. After a pair of Jared Triolo and Blake Sabol singles, paired with a Shackelford walk to load the bases, the Senators brought in Zach Brzykcy to replace Andrew Lee on the mound. Macias then smacked a bases-clearing, three-run double off the left field wall to make it a 6-5 game.
The Senators scattered seven runs on 11 hits across their eight innings of offense. Curve starter Luis Ortiz (L, 3-6) was tagged with the loss, allowing five runs with three earned over five innings with five strikeouts.
John Nogowski hit an RBI-single in the first inning, scoring an unearned run after Rudy Martin was picked off but remained at first on a Liover Peguero throwing error. Nogowski was later picked off by Sabol for the second out of the inning. In his first game with Harrisburg this season, Omar Meregildo knocked a solo home run in the second inning to break a tie game, making it 2-1.
Meregildo added an RBI-single in the fourth to extend the Senators lead, scoring Justin Connell from second who had advanced on a passed ball by Sabol earlier in the inning. One inning later, Wilson Garcia hit a two-run home run off Ortiz to grow the Harrisburg lead to 5-1.
Jackson Cluff brought home an unearned run with a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning off Jeff Passantino, scoring Israel Pineda, who reached on a Triolo fielding error. Passantino allowed the unearned run on two hits in one inning. Enmanuel Mejia followed with a scoreless frame in the seventh.
Pineda would score an insurance run in the eighth on a Young double to right field off Colin Selby, who returned from the injured list in the outing. In his first appearance since May 19, Selby allowed one run on two hits in one inning with a walk and a strikeout.
The Curve continue their three-game series with Harrisburg on Saturday night at 6:00 p.m. RHP Kyle Nicolas takes the ball for Altoona, the Senators yet to announce a starter.
