
Toglia's Two Homers Lead Yard Goats to 6th Win in Row

Binghamton, NY- Michael Toglia cranked two home runs leading the Yard Goats to their sixth consecutive victory, a 6-5 road win on Friday night at Mirabito Stadium in Binghamton, New York. Toglia's first homer helped Hartford to a 5-0 lead in the fifth inning, and his second blast put the Yard Goats ahead 6-5 in the eighth inning. The Yard Goats first baseman leads the team with 19 home runs, and has homered in each of his last three games. It was the second time this season that he has enjoyed a multiple homer game. The Yard Goats improved to a franchise-high 22 games above .500 with their overall record at 55-33, and have the longest active win streak in the Eastern League, six straight games. Aaron Schunk also homered for Hartford and PJ Poulin improved to 5-1 with a scoreless inning of relief.
Aaron Schunk gave the Yard Goats a 1-0 lead with a solo homer off Binghamton starter Garrison Bryant in the second inning. Hartford made it 2-0 on Hunter Stovall's single in the third inning, scoring Isaac Collins who also had a hit. The Yard Goats added two more runs in the fourth inning to take a 4-0 lead. Brenton Doyle led off the frame with a double and eventually scored on Willie MacIver's double. MacIver scored on a throwing error after stealing third base. The Yard Goats made it 5-0 as Michael Toglia belted a solo homer in the fifth inning.
The Rumble Ponies scored a run in the fifth inning and added four runs in the sixth to tie the game at 5-5. Brett Bady doubled home Matt Winaker for Binghamton's first run in the fifth. The Mets affiliate rallied to tie the game on three hits, one walk and a fielding error in the sixth. Zach Ashford had a two-run single and Wyatt Young cracked an RBI double. Luke Ritter's sacrifice fly scored Winaker to make it 5-5.
The Yard Goats took a 6-5 lead in the eighth inning as Michael Toglia crushed his second homer of the night, a solo shot off reliever Mitch Ragan. It was Toglia's second multiple home run game this season (May 22nd @ Bowie).
The Yard Goats play the second of a three-game weekend series on Saturday night (6:35 PM) at Marabito Stadium in Binghamton, New York. RHP Noah Davis will start for the Yard Goats and RHP Jose Butto will start for the Rumble Ponies. The broadcast can be heard on AM 1410 WPOP and FM 100.9 and on the iheart radio app. The Yard Goats return home to Dunkin Donuts Park next Tuesday, (July 26th), and will open a six-game series against the Boston Red Sox affiliate, the Portland Sea Dogs.
